The outbreak of the Coronavirus has really affected students nationwide and globally. THREE MONTHS EXTENSION OF OFFICE GRANTED TO FOUR MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN.

Plateau State House of Assembly has renewed the extension of tenure of management committee of Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom and Jos North Local Government Councils for the period of three months with effect from 10th July, 2020.  The Speaker Abok Ayuba, in a statement states that the management committee secretary of Barkin Ladi should act in place of the Chairman, pending the appointment of a substantive management committee chairman. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO LOOK INTO WASE COLLAPSED BRIDGE

The Federal Government is to build a concrete bridge over the Wase Waterways in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State as replacement for the recently collapsed Wase Bridge in the state.  Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this in Abuja when he met with the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong.  In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Boade Akinola, the minister stated the government would provide a short term relief to facilitate movement among communities disconnected as a result of the collapse. He told the governor that the temporary relief would be undertaken by the Federal Controller of Works in Plateau State, in collaboration with the state government and chairman of Wase Local Government.  Fashola said the new concrete bridge would be a long term solution to the perennial problem which the bridge had suffered as a result of heavy rainfall.  The ministry explained that the design of the br

FIRS: Tax Debt Payment extended to August

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has extended the closing date of tax debt payments in the country. In a statement issued on Wednesday by FIRS Director of Communications, Abdullahi Ahmad, the agency moved its waiver of penalty and interest window on tax debts owned by individuals and businesses from June 30 to August 31st, 2020. He noted that the agency’s boss, Muhammad Nami, approved the extension as a “follow up to a number of palliative measures devised by the FIRS to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Nigerian economy.” According to him, the move is to support tax-paying individuals and business entities in the country. “Taxpayers are advised to note that there will be no further extension of this palliative measure. Tax debtors are therefore enjoined to liquidate their outstanding tax liabilities on or before 31st August 2020 in order to enjoy a waiver of accumulated penalties and interests,” Nami was quoted as saying. CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA DEVALUES NAIRA BY 5.3%

Nigeria’s central bank devalued the naira at one of its curency auctions, according to people familiar with the matter. The weakening comes after Governor Godwin Emefiele   last month that the bank plans to unify its multiple exchange rates to improve the transparency of its currency-management system. At an auction for importers on Friday, the central bank asked that bids for foreign exchange be made at 380 naira per dollar, compared with 360 previously, the people said, asking not to be identified because they’re not authorized to speak to the media. Isaac Okorafor, a spokesman for the central bank, didn’t answer calls to his mobile phone or reply to messages seeking comment. The bank previously devalued the currency in March, when it adjusted the official peg against the dollar to 360 from 307.
