MUPUN NATION RECORDS TREMENDOUS SUCCESS: TO SUSTAIN THE FIGHT AGAINST DRUG/SUBSTANCE ABUSE.
The Mupun Community Hall, Lankan over the weekend played host to some stakeholders of the Mupun Nation such as the Traditional Council,MUCDA National Executives, Religious Institutions lead by CAN,Women,Youths etc
The event was the closing ceremony of the six months Anti Drug Campaign across Mupun Land which started on the 23rd November 2019.
Addressing the gathering, coordinator of the programme and a mupun son,Mr Panshak Dawal said the programme took a five step multifaceted approach to help deal with the menace identifying stand points to include Primary and Secondary Schools, Worship Centers,Identified sports ordinarily called Jungles and Public spaces such as markets.
Dawal who is also the State Coordinator of a support NGO,HELP INTERNATIONAL reeled out some of the outcomes of the campaign to include a
-Visit and awareness to 39 of the 42 primary schools in mupun land where a total of 1600 out of a population of about 2000 pupils were educated on dangers of drugs.Awareness materials were distributed there and synergy established with relevant school authorities.
-12 secondary schools out 12 were covered within the period were in addition to awareness,drug free clubs were established with leaderships and supervision by Patrons/Matrons.Over 1,700 students benefited from this.
-17 out of the 24 Churches were visited and enlightenment in conjunction with CAN apart from awareness within Churches took them to identified spots were some of these activities directly take place.
These was attested to when the CAN Chairman in the area opened up on the awareness bringing back several lost souls,having a large improvement of youths into Sunday and other weekly activities including an every Friday meeting for those in the drug related withdrawal classes among other positive developments.
Speaking earlier,MUCDA National President, Chief Pedro Ardiyel Dafur, FCA said the desire of MUCDA is to see a Mupun Nation where its youths clearly define a purpose in their lives and stand on for positive growth of their community.
He said identifying challenges and collaborating with the coordinator to carryout a programme such as this came at time it was most needed saying all hands must be on deck to fight this challenge that is why a group of mothers from the Mupun Nation, Dakyil Mupun Women Pressure Group had been on same mission making tremendous headway before the advent of COVID-19 which has brought a stop to so many activities.
Dafur thanked mupun sons and daughters who sacrificed their time and resources to ensure the campaign held,saying MUCDA remains grateful for their support whenever they come knocking and prayed God to continue to bless them.
On his part,the Mishkom Mupun, HRH Da Yusuf Walle Fwangbring flanked by other village heads thanked MUCDA,Coordinator, Religious Leaders and other stakeholders for giving backing to the project saying rather than ending, this will serve as a furtherance of the sustained engagement at community level from where the organizers have stopped.
He said the traditional council will leave its doors open and further drive down the message across communities saying the council alongside stakeholders have already finalized on possible penalties to those may willingly want to draw back the hands of the clock.
