GOVERNOR LALONG'S DIRECTIVES ON COVID-19,VERY POSITIVE DESPITE INCREASE IN NUMBER OF POSITIVE CASES.
MY VISIT TO THE SPORTS COUNCIL THIS MORNING.
Out of curiosity I heard the COVID-19 compulsory testing as directed by His Excellency Governor Simon Bako Lalong is billed to hold for staff of the Plateau State Sports Council today so I swooped in to scoop some info.
I learnt it will be for all round sports men and women as such athletes gathered in their numbers waiting for officials from the health bodies to arrive.
I saw them in their numbers at strategic positions and also learning that some had come and gone leaving information that once the health officials arrive they should be called upon, this I can confirm some persons I overheard on phone talking.
From my little chat with some of them it is expected that when the entire sportsmen and women are tested, then it will be a good thing in knowing the status of so many Plateau persons as the sports council is seen to host close or over 10,000 (Ten Thousand Athletes)
from across all sports including the non permanent staff.
This to me and some of us is a worthy and commendable effort by the Plateau State Government as this kind of tests is what has seen to the rise in number of positive cases within the state thereby affording people the opportunity to know their status, protect themselves as well as others.
Furthermore as the testing continues across government MDAs we should expect that the results may continue flow in as seen over the last days but the ultimate is that we should use this opportunity as a means to protect ourselves, families and friends from further spread of the virus.
Also the encouragement of citizens to go for voluntary testing at the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry Of Health at Constitution Hill road is a good step which I think should be replicated at Local Government levels to help in reducing community transmission.
The issue of stigmatization was one of the major challenges of getting tested that I was able to also scoop out from them at the sports council, but above all knowing that testing positive is not a death sentence has given them hope.
With the enthusiasm I saw among the state's sportsmen and women to get tested today I believe we are making a headway.
