THE 'FOSIECON' CONFERENCE, A CALL TO STRENGTH GRASSROOT DEMOCRACY. By Justin Jattim Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, has seen the start of the 13th Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission (FOSIECON) National Delegates Conference. The conference brings together electoral stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on strengthening grassroots democracy and electoral reforms. FOSIECON Chairman Chief Barrister Jossy Chibundu outlined the difficulties SIECs face, such as a lack of funding independence, political meddling, administrative limitations, and public misperception. By Justin Jattim On the second day of its ministerial press briefing, the Plateau State administration presented its advancements in many areas. Key ministries gave presentations at the event, which took place on May 21, 2025, at the Ministry of Information and Communication's conference hall at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos. Ministry of Works: Development and construction of roads and buildings have advanced significantly under the Ministry of Works. According to Dr. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, the Honorable Commissioner for Works, there is a lot of road construction all around the state right now. UNICEF inspect cholera treatment centre in Bokkos. By Asile Abel Jos  The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Bauchi Field Office Dr. Nuzhat Rafique has inspect the cholera treatment centre in Bokkos local government area of Plateau assuring of their support in ending the raising cases of cholera in the state. She said collaborative efforts is key in addressing the outbreak to further stop mortality especially children mortality going forward. Rafique stated this during her visit to Bokkos local government area of Plateau State to assessed the treatment condition of the health facility as well as to compliment the efforts of other organisations who are in ground trying to control the outbreak from spreading. UNICEF; WHY PLATEAU GOVERNMENT SHOULD ACCELERATES FSM ADOPTION TO TACKLE ODF  By Asile Abel Jos  As part of efforts to improve public health, environmental sustainability, and eliminate open defecation, the Plateau State Government has adopted a comprehensive Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) strategy, with support from UNICEF and key sanitation experts. The decision was made during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Jos, aimed at facilitating the adoption and implementation of the FSM strategy across the state. The event brought together representatives of government ministries, development partners, traditional institutions, the media, and sanitation experts. Speaking at the engagement, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Alhaji Bashir Lawandi Datti, represented by the Director of Administration in the ministry, Mr. Gonzaga Pam Badung, said the new strategy is critical to addressing the challenges of faecal waste management in the state. ...
