THE 'FOSIECON' CONFERENCE, A CALL TO STRENGTH GRASSROOT DEMOCRACY.

Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, has seen the start of the 13th Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission (FOSIECON) National Delegates Conference. The conference brings together electoral stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on strengthening grassroots democracy and electoral reforms.
FOSIECON Chairman Chief Barrister Jossy Chibundu outlined the difficulties SIECs face, such as a lack of funding independence, political meddling, administrative limitations, and public misperception. Despite these problems, a lot of SIECs have done a great job carrying out their mandates.
As a forum for discussion and change, the chairman underlined the importance of this conference.
Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, welcomed guests and emphasized the state's natural beauty, safety, and friendliness. He called for integrity, sincerity, and a renewed dedication to responsible governance, stressing the value of cooperation for regional development.
His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, Chairman of the Plateau Council of Chiefs and Emirs and Gbong Gwom Jos, greeted everyone with open arms and exhorted delegates to support justice and grassroots democracy.
Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, praised Plateau's progress in development and dedication to security and emphasized the significance of involving local communities in the voting process.
The conference offers a vital forum for discussing the difficulties State Independent Electoral Commissions encounter, with the goal of improving their efficacy, independence, and transparency in holding legitimate elections at the local level. In order to support long-term electoral reforms and fortify Nigeria's democratic institutions, delegates will continue to discuss and work together throughout the event.
