PRESIDENCY: GROUP CAUTIONS APC AGAINST MUSLIM/MUSLIM TICKET

Presidency: Group Cautions APC Against Muslim/Muslim Ticket

A Non-Political group known as Northern Nigeria Project (NNP) has appealed to the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu to reverse the choice of his running mate, Alhaji Kabir Ibrahim Masari and urgently replace him with a northern Christian in the interest of fairness, justice and equity.

The group in a press statement signed by it's Signed by Publicity Secretary Comrade Yohanna Jatau and made available to newsmen in Jos, Plateau State capital.

The statement lamented that the choice of Masari was against the earlier warnings by different groups against the planned Muslim/Muslim ticket but regretted that the party went ahead to picked a Muslim as Tinubu's running mate.

It gathered that Tinubu is a Muslim and a one time governor of Lagos state and Masari is also a Muslim from Katisna.

While giving condition for the party's victory in the Presidential election, the group called on the relevant stakeholders and the party's presidential candidate to as a matter of urgency replace Masari with a Christian from North Central region.

It could be recall that the party had earlier hinted that the decision to pick Masari was a temporary decision to beat INEC's deadline, the group said whether temporarily or permanently, the decision will not only leads to the defeat of the party in 2023 presidential election but will further divide Nigerians along religion lines.

The statement further disclosed that the party's explanation on the choice of Masari as a temporary arrangement, was not convincing enough but rather exposed the well circulated attempt to exclude Christians from the governance of the country.

The group further disclosed that the decision has alot of negative implications on the unity and progress of Nigeria and as such advocated for fairness and equity to all other religions in the country as it has always been either Muslim/Christian or Christian/Muslim.

According to the statement, the party's decision to paired Muslim/Muslim as it's Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates has violated the principles of federal character adding that if not reverse, it will amount to marginalization of Christians and may push them leave APC for any party that accommodated their interest.
