Plateau's Political Landscape Shifts: City Boy Movement Gains Momentum

By Justin Jattim.

The City Boy Movement has ignited a fresh wave of political reawakening in Plateau State with the inauguration of 207 coordinators on Thursday, marking what supporters described as the first major spark in the build-up to the 2027 general elections. The event, hosted at Crest Hotel, brought together influential party actors, including the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nanlong Daniel, and senior APC leaders, who framed the event as a renewed grassroots charge aimed at reinvigorating the party's base and expanding its reach across the state.

State Director of the Movement, Hon. David Daser, set a determined tone, announcing that a major empowerment programme titled "The Banga" will headline the new year, with national figures expected to attend. He portrayed the Tinubu administration as one taking "transformational decisions," citing notable reforms in governance, infrastructure development, agriculture, and digital connectivity, which he said were yielding positive results and positioning the country for growth.

Daser told attendees that the newly inaugurated coordinators were being positioned as the APC's on-ground machinery, responsible for public engagement, voter education, and community-level sensitization aimed at strengthening the ruling party's reach ahead of future elections. He urged them to avoid confrontational politics and instead focus on selling government policies "with clarity and calm," emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability within the party.

Declaring the coordinators formally commissioned, the APC Plateau Chairman, in a stirring message, stressed the importance of party discipline, warning against internal sabotage and insisting that cohesion would ultimately determine the party's fortunes in the state. He called on the coordinators to work together, united in their efforts to promote the party's agenda and ensure its victory in future elections.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Nanlong Daniel, delivering his goodwill remarks, said the platform demonstrated Plateau's alignment with the national political direction, emphasizing the state's commitment to supporting the APC's agenda and contributing to the country's development. He encouraged the coordinators to treat their new responsibilities as a proving ground for higher leadership roles, saying it was an opportunity for them to prove their mettle and demonstrate their capabilities.

Tributes were extended to supporters and contributors of the Movement's rise in Plateau, including academic and political leaders, as well as allied regional initiatives. The ceremony ended with a resounding call for unity, loyalty, and issue-based mobilisation, signaling the City Boy Movement's intention to become a decisive organizing force as the state enters another political season.

The event is seen as a significant development in the state's politics, with many expecting the City Boy Movement to play a major role in shaping the APC's strategy and direction in Plateau State. As the state prepares for future elections, the Movement's efforts are likely to be closely watched by stakeholders and opponents alike.
