DAKUM SPEAKS AT COCIN ANNUAL GENERAL CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING,ADVISES FULL PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS

Dr Patrick Sunday Dakum, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria spoke on the need for all COCIN members to be fully involved in political activities.

He gave the admonition at the COCIN General Church Council meeting on Wednesday, 10th November, 2021 at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church, Jos.

In a brief interaction with media  Executives after a session with the clerics he revealed that, the General Church Council of the “Church of Christ in Nations” (popularly known as COCIN), held their 12th annual General Church Council meeting, which ended with praise, worship, prayers and most importantly the  Bible Literature Reviews, as well as Dedication of the 2022 COCIN Daily Devotionals, the English version "known as Daily Work with Christ" and the Hausa version also know as “Tafiya Da Almasihu”,  alongside the 2022 daily/weekly Bible Studies materials.

Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakum who also doubles as the Chairman of the COCIN Bible Literature Review Committee, has been so rooted and served for about 12 years now, saddled with the responsibility of writing the Daily Devotionals and the Daily/Weekly Bible Studies materials, both popularly being used in all COCIN Churches locally (in remote villages and in cities across the whole country) as well as internationally, in English and Hausa Languages. Not only that, but other denominations also take delight in using the same Devotionals and Bible study materials at home and in churches owing to the rich contents in it.

He also reveals that, so far so good, there have been remarkable reforms and improvement in terms of provisions of sophisticated gadgets, computers, printing materials, office materials to ensure smooth running of the new offices provided, and most importantly, new staff have been employed permanently to work and provide more robust services than ever had in the past which is an added advantage to the responsibilities of the Literature Review Committee.

While addressing the COCIN General Church Council, Dakum took his time to re-emphasise the need for the Church leadership and the entire COCIN family to actively participate in political activities via:

Registering in political parties. He emphasized that, there is a big need for all religious leaders and COCIN members to register in political parties, adding that he is contesting under the platform of the All Progressive Party (APC), as such, it is totally not out of place to get all COCIN members to register under the platform of APC, to obtain full membership card of the party.

The Church and religious leaders should engage constructively with Government, as it is not good to see religious leaders making uncomplimentary statements publicly when they can actually call the attention of their members that are big people and deeply rooted in the government, siting example with the Deputy Governor who is a COCIN member. And there are so many Commissioners and some top government appointees that are members of the COCIN family. He stressed that, if they hear anything happening that’s not in order, they should always be quick to call the Deputy Governor and any other Commissioner or government appointee to find out, what is happening. For example, we heard that there is crisis here and there, or we heard there is crisis in the House of Assembly, do you know anything about it or are your hands in it? So that the original version or the truth of what has been or going on can be known. In that way, when they will make a public statement, there will be no trouble shooting.

He added that, if they would continue to rely on information on social media, most often, 70% of the information on social media are adulterated, changed, and not the real information that should be captured.

He also charged the religious leaders to actively and passively be part of solution providers in crises situations and offer constructive advice to the government on possible ways to solve the problems. Going that way, will go a long way to reduce overheating the polity on unnecessary and at the slightest provocation.
