ALLEGATION OF MARGINALISATION OF CHRISTIANS IN KANAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.
In civilized climes, political parties are identified based on principles and ideology, and not on whether you are a Muslim or Christian as it is been done in Nigeria. In any country where you have such recurring decimals in its polity, it represents tell-tale signs of deep-seated hate and factionalized elitism and followership ; two constant features of a country on the brink of collapse. I am so certain Kanam would not care which religion their leaders comes from as long as he or she can provide them with adequate security for their lives and properties, portable and affordable health care, solid social and capital infrastructure, quality and reasonably priced education, functional social welfare schemes, and sustainable jobs.
As Kanamians, what we expect from Kanam Christian Youths in Politics(KCYP) in particular and Plateau state politicians in general is an exemplification of ‘politics based on principles’ and not ‘politics of hate, religion and tribalism’
An ideal Nigerian politicians sees Nigeria as a collective project, and not an entity whose identity and composition is drawn along ethnic or religious bias.
The cacophony of Christian marginalisation that constitutes the sing-song of KYCP is a blatant lie, a deliberate distortion and a devilish strategy of shedding crocodile tears or crying while flogging Muslims with bare-faced oppression and systemic repression in Plateau state. Though religion preaches love, honesty, sincerity, tolerance, good neighbourliness and kindness, among other virtues, KCYP has succeeded in creating a Nigerian version of Christianity which is anchored on morbid hatred, undisguised dishonesty, caustic insincerity, religious intolerance, perennial hostility and outright wickedness. If KYCP has its way, it would annihilate Muslims from Kanam.
It therefore beats imagination that KCYP can be so blinded by Islamophobia as to promote anarchy in the land. Succinctly put, Christian youths got entrapped with the falsehood in the razzmatazz of “MARGINALISATION”. All are deception.
For the purpose of hindsight, Muslims have over the years been bearing their persecution and marginalisation in Plateau state with religious patience and dignified forbearance without the MSSN heating up the polity, occupying public spaces or inciting confrontation with constituted authorities. Right-thinking Kanamians are to ponder what KCYP would have done if Christians were to be at the receiving end illustrated with just the following instance:
The below illustration show how the State Government use to impose Christians to govern the Local Government Affairs as management and sole administrators, despite Muslims being the majority.
The State Government most at times impeach or suspend Muslim to imposed a Christian as Management Chairman.
1. Mr. Sallah Dashe 1979-1981
2. Mr. Joel Tali Nimfa 1981-1983
3. Mr. John P. Pam 1990-1991
4. Mr. Sen Luka Gwam 1993-1994
5. Mr. Iliya Amagon 1998-1999
6. Mr. Clement N. Klantom 2002-2002 Agt Chairman
7. Mr. Ayuba Pyokdom 2003-2004
8.Mr. Lawrence Shalbuet Agt Chairman 2008-2009
9. Mr. Danjuma A. Usman 2011-2012
10. Mrs. Dorathy S. Myesgin 2013-2014
Secondly, the appointment of Supervisory Councillors is a directive of Governor Lalong to consider stakeholders in Kanam for the appointment, therefore stakeholders from zones presented their candidates and were just confirmed by the LG Chairman as we mentioned yesterday.
And the Appointments of Secretary to the Local Government has been enjoyed by Christians that doesn't make it their entitlement. The position is given for those deserving individuals who worked religiously and financially to ensure the success of the movement before and during election. If no Christian make those criteria, it's not marginalization agenda for the Chairman to appoint another individual who met the criteria.
Muslims can no longer tolerate the psychological terrorism of those whose stock-in-trade is campaign of calumny and bigoted propaganda anytime a Muslim happens to be at the helm of affairs in Kanam. This is the way forward at this time as the vilification of Muslims by KCYP can only be redressed by publishing the statistics and letting the world know who is marginalising who.
Muslims who listen to the deceit of ‘those-who-wish-others-evil’ or the rants of their megaphones are bound to regret if they continue to toe their divisive ethnic and religious propaganda.
Let it be noted for the avoidance of doubts that we are not, and do not intend to be card carrying members of any political party, neither do we intend to be in the foreseeable future, but as Kanamians, and Political activists, we feel obliged to set the records straight when politicians in their utterances and actions continue to play politics of ethnicity and religion for the purpose of scoring cheap political points.
These silver spoon fed are not like us; while they lean on their names for everything, we have learnt the diligent duty of cracking our own kernels.
As far as we are duly concerned, KCYP is not looking for change anywhere, neither is the association putting the interest of the Local Government first like they claimed. They are only trying to secure their meal ticket. With all due respect to KCYP, we think KCYP have goofed in this regard.
If this Local Government is to ever move forward, our political elites must rise beyond their obvious short-sightedness or if you like, ‘blurred vision’ by playing politics according to the rules and by also placing Kanam’s unity and progress beyond personal considerations. This is the only way forward, not these highly sentimental, religious and ethnically biased positions often advanced by politicians.
KCYP represents a religious god that went to Hell and back. If you had been following their bigoted religious divisive and explosive statements, you’ll agree with our characterization.
