Jos, Plateau State - The 2025 Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival has kicked off with a massive attendance at the iconic Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Dwei-Du, Jos South, cementing Plateau's position as a leading centre of Christian unity and spiritual renewal in Nigeria.
The annual festival, which brings together Christians from all denominations, commenced on Friday with a powerful opening ceremony that featured Pre-Service Praise, prayers, and scripture readings. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang joined other leaders in reading passages from Scripture, emphasizing the importance of unity and hope in the face of challenges.
In his address, Governor Mutfwang declared, "Despite trials and turbulence, the Lord has been good... exceedingly good to Plateau." He stressed that Plateau's greatest victories will come when its people choose unity over rivalry and bitterness, saying, "This state is blessed... With unity, we close the door against the enemy. With unity, we speak with one voice. With unity, we pursue the same vision."
Former Nigerian President Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo delivered a thought-provoking message, expressing concern over national instability and warning that Nigerians may have to seek external assistance if the government fails to address the country's challenges decisively.
The event has attracted a host of dignitaries, including former Plateau State Governor Sen. Jonah David Jang, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naalong Daniel, and top traditional rulers such as the Gwon Bong Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.
As the festival continues, women's fellowship groups from Kaduna, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Plateau are leading worship with songs of praise and thanksgiving, energizing the crowd with vibrant melodies. The event is expected to conclude tomorrow, marking the end of a spiritually uplifting and historically impactful event that continues to unite Plateau people and inspire hope across Nigeria.
