Distinguished Senator Victor Rampyal Lar, former Senator representing Plateau South in the 7th Assembly and ex-Labour Party BOT Chairman, has made a dramatic return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his move as a “homecoming”.
Speaking to journalists at the Jos Polo Stadium on Saturday, November 15, 2025, where thousands of supporters gathered for a massive APC rally, Senator Lar emphasized, “I am Distinguished Senator Victor Rampyal Lar. I represented Plateau South during the 7th Senate. Many people simply refer to me as ‘Distinguished’, and that is fine.”
When asked about his return to the APC, Lar firmly stated, “The word ‘defection’ is incorrect. I have not defected; I have returned home. I was a founding member of the APC, and today, I came back to revalidate my membership. My slogan is ‘Revalidation 2027’.”
Lar cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration as a major factor in his decision, highlighting the President's fairness towards minorities and Christians. “There is a false narrative that minorities and Christians are being marginalized. That is not true. The President has executed impactful projects in the Middle Belt, including the new university in Southern Kaduna,” he said.
The Senator confirmed that he is not alone in his return, stating, “Over a thousand of my supporters are already here today, and many more are still coming. What you see is not even one-quarter of them. My entire structure is returning with me.”
On the implications of his return for Plateau APC, Lar said, “Number one, I intend to mobilise, conscientise, reunite, and refocus the APC. Before any party can win, it must first be united.” He added that his experience in both chambers of the National Assembly will be deployed to ensure victory in the 2027 elections.
When asked about his future plans, Lar smiled and replied, “Yes. That ‘cap’ requires people with experience. The people know the difference between experienced representation and what we’ve had since 2015.”
