SENATOR PAM DACHUNGYANG MWADKON: A VISIONARY IN THE MAKING — HE JUST NEEDS TIME.
By Gyang Bulus & Justin Michael, Dong.
In recent weeks, social media has been awash with a wave of criticism aimed at Senator Pam Dachungyang Mwadkon, the distinguished representative of Plateau North Senatorial District. While public scrutiny is a vital part of democracy, it is equally important to balance expectation with context, and passion with patience.
Senator Mwadkon is a first-time legislator in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly — a space governed not just by lawmaking but by the nuanced politics of alliances, influence, and strategic timing. Like every craftsman, even the most gifted require time to understand the tools, map the terrain, and earn the trust needed to bring lasting change. It is no different in the Senate.
Those who know Senator Mwadkon closely can testify to his compassion, generosity, and unwavering vision for Plateau North. His legacy of philanthropy predates his senatorial victory — having donated millions of naira to churches, vulnerable families, students, and political allies alike. During Ramadan, Sallah, Christmas, and Easter, he extended hands of support through grants, food items like groundnut oil, and essential funding to cushion the cost of living for his people.
Less than a year in office, Senator Mwadkon has quietly facilitated employment opportunities for his constituents in institutions such as JUTH, federal ministries, departments, and agencies — a feat many seasoned lawmakers struggle to accomplish in a full term.
We must not forget the ten-month legal battle he fought — a journey that demanded enormous financial, emotional, and strategic investment to defend the people’s mandate at the tribunal. That fight was not for himself, but for the voice of Plateau North to be heard loud and clear in the red chamber.
It is also critical to understand the timeline: the 2024 senatorial budget was concluded before his inauguration. His projects — your projects — are captured in the 2025 budget year. However, like every other Senatorial district, implementation remains tied to delayed fund releases from the appropriate agencies. Once the federal disbursements are made, the people of Plateau North will witness a flood of constituency projects aimed at upliftment, empowerment, and development.
Accessibility is not a trait to be faked — and Senator Mwadkon is living proof. From his participation in the North Central Senate Zonal Public Hearing on the Constitution Review at Crispan Hotel, Jos, to his ongoing oversight duties with the Senate Committee on Army in Maiduguri, he has shown up, stood up, and spoken up for his people.
He continues to support the state government, attend weddings and burials, pay sympathy visits, and engage in strategic dialogues in Abuja and at home. His commitment to securing NEMA intervention for victims of herder attacks in Plateau North is a testament to his forward-thinking leadership.
We therefore appeal to all — the political class, civil society, our youth, and the grassroots — to allow him the space and time to fully settle into this role. The harvest is only possible after sowing, and the seeds have indeed been planted.
Let us not be deceived by those already eyeing the 2027 Senatorial seat — those who weaponize impatience to poison the well of progress. Let us not allow ambition to overshadow reason, nor let our youth be used as pawns in a game that risks sacrificing tomorrow for the frustration of today.
We must not throw away the baby with the bathwater. Instead, let us watch, support, and hold our Senator accountable — with understanding, not malice. For in unity and patience, Plateau North shall rise stronger.
