PIDAN COMMENDS CITIZENS, CAUTIONS AGAINST HATE CAMPAIGNS
Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN) has commended citizens of the State for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves, before and after Saturday, 25th February 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
PIDAN, made the commendation in a statement while reviewing the conduct of Elections during an emergency EXCO meeting, on Wednesday, 8th March 2023.
The Association further commended Community Leaders for carrying out the resolutions of the PIDAN Council meeting adopted during it's 4th February 2023 meeting, where it was resolved that for equity, they should support any candidate from the Southern part of the Country.
On the Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections scheduled for Saturday, 18th March 2023, as rescheduled by INEC, PIDAN noted the various campaigns of the Parties, candidates and their supporters, and called on them to exercise high level of decorum and restrain and avoid acts capable of causing disunity and breakdown of law and order.
The statement however noted with utmost dismay, some ugly trends on Social Media, where information are distorted and sometimes amplified to cause mistrust and enmity, and consequently heating the polity.
The Association then admonish people to avoid tendencies that are based on falsehood, and or likely to create hatred and insults, as well as unkind remarks and character assassination of the respective candidates
"While we commend the candidates for conducting themselves well, we, however, appeal to all their supporters to bear in mind that all the candidates are ours and have the right to aspire to govern the State. They should also know that Power comes from God. This therefore behove on us to be matured and accommodating each," PIDAN noted.
The Association equally called on INEC to note and address all the lapses dictated during the Presidential and National Assembly Elections, with the view of making Saturday's elections seamless.
