QUA’AN-PAN LG. BOSS CONDOLES WITH SEN. DADUUT, PLATEAU NUJ, OTHERS OVER ATTACK IN NAMU

30th April, 2022

The Executive Chairman Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council (LGC) of Plateau State, Hon. Ernest Abner Da’a, has condoled with the Senator representing Plateau South District, Prof. Dame Nora Dadu'ut and the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Chapter, over an attack on the Senator’s convoy, which led to the harassment of innocent people and destruction of property, which included the Senator's vehicles and the NUJ Bus conveying some journalists.

Hon. Ernest Abner Da’a also commiserated with the entire Qua’an-Pan Traditional Council, whose convoys were also harassed, and if not for the prompt intervention of the security agencies, the situation would have gotten out of hand.

The Chairman expressed the Council's sympathy in Namu on Friday April 29, 2022 after an assessment tour of the scene of the dastardly act which occurred on 28th April.

Hon. Da'a expressed deep shock at the level of destruction, describing the incident as a regrettable and condemnable criminal act.

The Executive Chairman described the act as a national disgrace, as it was meted out on innocent and dignified public figures who were in the area for the commissioning of an ICT HUB constructed by the Senator as part of her Constituency Project in Namu District of the LGA.

“I want to state categorically that the attack was not in any way related to the commissioning of the project, but an alleged protest by hoodlums who were protesting the arrest of 3 members of a suspected kidnap gang in Namu town, by security agencies who decided to vent their anger on commuters and any innocent person they encountered.”

“As a Council, we condemn and regret the burning of one of the security vehicles of the Senator, the damage of her official vehicle as well as the complete burning down of the NUJ bus which had conveyed members of the Union to cover the event.”

Da’a, who conveyed deep message of condolence to the family of the casualty, a house owner and those whose  shops were burgled and looted, said the culprits must be fished out and will have to face the wrath of the law.

The Council Chairman who further acknowledged and praised the quick response of security forces by reinforcing to contain the situation, which he said, restored calm and peace.

He disclosed that after careful analysis of the situation with the security agencies, the dusk to dawn curfew earlier imposed on the Namu District and environs has been relaxed, in order not to allow room for miscreants to disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed on the Plateau, under the able Rescue Mission leadership of Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Simon Bako Lalong KSSG.

The Chairman appealed to law abiding citizens of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area (LGA) and beyond to be security conscious, and watch out and report suspected criminal elements and their sponsors who are desperate in orchestrating trouble for selfish gains.

Signed
