The renewed cases of rape has become worrisome and is drawing condemnation from a cross sections of the society
Condemning the rising cases of rape, the Management Committee chairman of Jos North Local Government Council Shehu Usman said his Administration Will continue to support any organisation and individuals whose mission is to fight against rape, sexual abuse and other vices in society.
Usman stated this when he received the National Association of Nigerian Female Students at the Local Government Council Secretariat, in Jos.
Members of the National Association of Nigerian Female Students wore symbolic black dresses to demand Government action against sexual violence with the inscription "say no to rape", "We call for stronger laws against sexual violence"; "domesticate sexual law against rape" amongst others.
Receiving them, the Chairman expressed concern over the increasing cases of rape and sexual assaults against women and the boy Child in the society.
The Chairman strongly condemned all forms of violence against women and children, adding that his administration is committed to ensuring that offenders face the maximum weight of the law.
He assured all Women of the determination of the Governor Simon Lalong administration to fight Gender based violence through the instrumentality of the law and the creation of awareness.
While appreciating the group for identifying with him in the fight against the act, Usman pledged the local government support at all time.
Plateau state commissioner for secondary Education Elizabeth Wapmuk represented by the Deputy Director of schools in the ministry, Comfort Gagara acknowledged the contribution of women to the growth of the country.
She noted the Plateau State Government has domesticated the Child's Rights law.
Earlier, Leader of the delegation, who is the vice president National Association of Nigerian female students, Comfort Agbo said Nigerian Women have long been violated and harassed because authorities still perceive rape as "women issue", thus leaving women vulnerable to their abusers.
This behaviour she said must change and be brought to an end.
In another development, Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government Shehu Usman has Flagged off the fumigation of the Local Government Council Secretariat to curb the spread of COVID 19 pandemic and other diseases.
While flagging off the fumigation exercise, Usman noted that since the outbreak of the disease, his administration has taken several steps to prevent its spread and called for citizens continued support to contain the disease.
The fumigation exercise coincided with the cleaning of the Council Secretariat is to ensure clean and healthy environment.
The chairman commended the staff of the council for coming out in their numbers to clean the council Secretariat in line with the COVID 19 protocol.
Director of Water and Sanitation of the local government Timlong Rinben showered accolades on the Chairman for creating a conducive and healthy environment for staff.
